Not So Sweet Tzimmes

When I found myself with the sudden urge to make tzimmes again, I couldn’t help but smile. Of course, this time around I’d have to tweak my old recipe quite a bit to tone down the sweetness.

Because, let’s be honest. These ingredients are sweet enough on their own (especially once you’re used to the paleo autoimmune protocol).

If you are unfamiliar, tzimmes is a traditional Jewish sweet stew of sorts and typically includes sweet potatoes, carrots, honey, orange juice, and any and every dried fruit you can imagine.

For my Not So Sweet Tzimmes I tweaked my original recipe {long gone, but not forgotten at least in my mind}. I left out the honey, orange juice, and kept the dried fruits simple. Adding lemon juice helped balance and tame the sweetness and added some freshness to this stewed dish.

My Not So Sweet Tzimmes can be served as a modestly portioned side dish OR it is perfectly acceptable as an AIP treat!
